CHELMSFORD, Dec. 2, 2011 --- A privately-funded MHP subsidy program designed to support more affordable housing in the suburbs reached a significant milestone in November as the Lynn Marcella Residences became the first development in the program to open its doors.

QUINCY, Nov. 29, 2011 --- At the grand opening of 6 Fort Street, Janelle Chan left no doubt that affordable housing is needed, noting that nearly 400 families had applied to live in one of the new apartments. "Demand far exceeds the supply," said the executive director of the Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) during opening ceremonies on Nov. 15.

JAMAICA PLAIN, Oct. 28, 2011 ---- The corner of Centre and Lamartine Street used to house nothing. Located across the street from the Jackson Square T station, commuters would exit the station and the first thing they'd see was a blighted plot of land. Now, they see 270 Centre Street, a four-story energy-efficient building housing 30 low- to moderate-income renters.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 30, 2011 --- Homebuyer education, risk retention by private lenders and a loan review system that includes a "second look" by the program's public administrator are three reasons why the Commonwealth's SoftSecond Loan Program has been so successful in making loans to low and moderate first-time homebuyers, according to Judy Jacobson of the Massachusetts Housing Partnership.
