Housing Headlines

AMHERST --- The Housing Partnership has decided to move forward with plans to develop 38 units of affordable housing on town-owned land, but the units will be available for sale rather than rented.

ARLINGTON --- The city manager has called for a second land appraisal to be performed on a parcel that developers hope to designate as a 40B effort, saying that earlier estimates may be too high.

LAWRENCE --- A $40 million plan will rehabilitate a mill into 155 rental apartments that will eventually be converted to condominium units. Ten percent of the units will be reserved for low-income renters.

CONCORD --- The local housing committee has been replaced by the Concord Housing Development Corporation, with hopes that it will be able to leverage greater community preservation funds to proactively pursue affordable housing opportunities.

COHASSET --- Selectmen have given the Housing Partnership approval to pursue plans to redevelop an old hospital as affordable units, acknowledging that many senior citizens, young families, and children of current residents cannot afford the median purchase price for a home in town.

HARVARD --- The Board of Selectmen has given its support for a "friendly" 40B effort that will add 12 units of housing, of which three will be affordable and two will be reserved for community members.
