BOSTON --- MHP is still accepting applications for its 3A-TA program, a direct technical assistance program to help MBTA communities comply with the state’s new multifamily zoning requirement (Section 3A of the state’s zoning act).
3A-TA can be used to support compliance-related activities such as:
- Identifying district boundaries
- Developing and/or evaluating proposed use and density requirements
- Estimating unit capacity and gross density using DHCD's compliance model
- Drafting zoning amendments
MHP held a first round of funding late last year. Since then, MHP has provided support to over 50 MBTA communities, totaling almost $1 milllion in technical assistande.
As of March 2023, applications are being accepted and awards made on a rolling basis. For more information, read the 3A-TA application.
The 3A-TA program is part of MHP’s Complete Neighborhoods Initiative, which supports the state's efforts to build more multifamily housing near transit, downtowns, jobs and services. MHP is currently in the middle of holding a 10-part webinar series and will be providing additional resources and trainings for MBTA communities throughout the law's two-year compliance period.
