Missed our MHP Housing Institute session with Dr. Jessica Trounstine? Or did you see it and want more?
If so, in addition to her presentation, Dr. Trounstine sat down with MHP Communications Coordinator Lisa Braxton for a 30-minute Q&A which expands upon the power point she presented on day two of the Housing Institute, held on June 10, 2021.
Author of the book "Segregation by Design: Local Politics and Inequality in American Cities," Trounstine discusses how local governments use their land use power to perpetuate segregation patterns.
Among the topics Trounstine discussed with Braxton are why segregation is easier to continue than undo, how segregation between two cities continues because of a lack of cooperation, and why governments with larger footprints have had some success fighting segregation and building equity.
Other videos and resources from this year's Housing Institute can be found in MHP's Housing Toolbox web site. Videos for sessions one and two are up. Session three will be posted soon.
