BOSTON --- MHP's Judy Jacobson and Clark Ziegler will participate in a panel discussion on housing growth and the economy on Thursday, Jan. 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency, One Avenue de Lafayette, Boston.
To register for this event, go to the CREW Boston events page.
Sponsored by Commercial Real Estate Women of Boston (Boston CREW), the discussion will focus on how restrictive land use regulation, low vacancy rates and high home prices factor in limiting the state's ability to grow its economy and compete with other states that build more housing. The discussion will also touch upon various policy remedies now before the state legislature.
Jacobson, MHP's deputy director, will moderate the panel discussion. MHP Executive Director Clark Ziegler will serve on the panel discuss how current land use regulation suppresses housing production and compromises the state's ability to attract workers, specifically in innovation industries. The panel will also include:
- Tim Reardon, director of data services, Metropolitan Area Planning Council
- Chryse Gibson, executive vice president, Oaktree Development
- Chrystal Kornegay, state undersecretary for housing and community development.
For background on this issue, MHP has a web site dedicated to the issue of finding zoning solutions so that Massachusetts can build the housing it needs when it needs it to grow its economy and better compete with other states for workers. The web site is called Unlock the Commonwealth and it contains research on this issue by MHP and others, and a blog that keeps up on housing and growth, including a new entry by Clark Ziegler on the proud history of planning in Massachusetts and how we could use it now.
