Teaming with MassDevelopment on ways to redevelop Lyman Terrace public housing

Posted on November 30, 2012

Holyoke_letterBOSTON, Nov. 30, 2012--- MHP and MassDevelopment have agreed to work with the City of Holyoke and the Holyoke Housing Authority on examining ways in which the Lyman Terrace public housing can be preserved and redeveloped.

The agreement was first outlined to Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse and Holyoke Housing Authority Executive Director Rosalie Deane in a letter dated Sept. 20, 2012.

In November, the two quasi-public state agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the city and the housing authority, officially agreeing to provide a range of pre-development services designed to ultimately put forth a study that will present development options for Lyman Terrace and the area bounded by Lyman Street, the First Level Canal, Dwight Street and High Street. The study will examine the feasibility of rehabilitating or redeveloping the existing Lyman Terrace buildings and other properties on High and Front Streets.

The planning effort will also consider and build upon recent planning work done by the city, including the Center City Vision Plan and the Holyoke Redevelopmen Authority's proposed Urban Renewal Plan entitled, "Connect. Construct. Create.: A Plan for the Revitalization of Center City Holyoke".

Pre-development work will also include community meetings that will enable the city and the state to provide updates and seek input from residents. The first community meeting was held on Nov. 27 and was attended by approximately 75 people. Residents heard from Mayor Morse, Deane, MassDevelopment and MHP and viewed a power point.
